ENGINEERS HAMMER AVIATORS
Headquarters, Jamaica Defence Force (Civ/Mil Co-op
In a gutsy display of courage, 1 Engineer Regiment (JDF) hammered the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing 5 goals to 4 in an exciting penalty shoot-out at the finals of the Inter-Unit Football Competition held on 17 October 2008.
Due to the operational commitment of the Force, it was the first time in three years that the competition was being staged.

So, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Football, Major Murphy Pryce decided it was fitting to have a competition this year to source new talents to represent the Jamaica Defence Force in the future. This made the competition even more exciting as Units came hard to acquire bragging rights. The competition was held over a one-week period and took the form of a Knock out and League format.
This caused the competition to be much more gruelling than usual. The teams had to play far more games in a shorter period with limited rest. Over the one-week period 15 games were played and a total of 38 goals scored.
The competition also took on a different face as for the first time the civilian staff members of the JDF were able to field a team. Their presence, however, was cut short as they did not make it to the semi-finals.

Sapper Terrence Shaw, of 1Engineer Regiment (JDF), was adjudged the Most Valuable Player. The leading goal scorer was Private Famion Buchanan, of the JDF Air Wing with a total of 6 goals.
An award was given for the most disciplined team which was copped by the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve).

“The competition went well and it brought out some of the JDF’s core values,” said Major Pryce.
Captain (N) Sydney Innis, Inspector General, made the presentation to the winning team.
The JDF team is now in preparation to compete in the up coming Super League and Jackie Bell Knock-out competitions.
