Always Ready

The 3rd Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (3JR) appeared to have been born ready, when on 04 October 2002 they battled in the finals of the Force Basketball Competition against the 1st Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (1JR). 1JR competitors, who consider themselves ‘First and Foremost’, were second best to 3JR. The Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment that believe they are ‘Second to None’ was second to 1JR, giving that unit a third placing at the end of the competition.

The semi-finals of the competition were held on 03 October 2002. The four teams in the semi-finals were 1JR, 2JR, 3JR and JDF AW. 1JR played 2JR and came out the victor, 3JR and JDF AW faced off with 3JR being victorious. At the end of the semi-finals JDF AW was fourth and 2JR was in third position. The finalists were 1JR and 3JR.

On the day of the finals, the spectators were treated to a display competition by Mona Rehabilitation (wheelchaired) basketball team. The display was fascinating as the players showed off their skills and athletism. Their love for the game was obvious and accuracy in scoring brought shouts, whistles and applause from the impressed spectators.

Afterwards it was time for the showdown as 1JR faced off with 3JR. The game began with 1JR taking the lead with accurate scoring. The race however, is not for the swift but for those who can endure. Within minutes of the first quarter, 3JR the took lead and the rest ‘they say is history’. At the end of the fourth quarter, 3JR won by a commanding lead, the final scores were 51 to 48 in favour of 3JR. The players from the Third Battalion the Jamaica Regiment were obviously ready. Well done 3JR!
