CARIBBEAN JUNIOR COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE (CJCSC)

The Caribbean Junior Command and Staff Course (CJCSC) prepares Junior Officers to perform junior and intermediate staff functions at the Unit and Force Headquarters’ levels in addition to command functions at the Sub-Unit level.  

This Course is conducted over a four (4) month period with two (2) phases: Phase One (1) Staff Work and Phase Two (2) Tactics.  It usually has a mixture of Instructors and Students from the CARICOM Defence Forces, Canada and the United Kingdom.  In recent times this Course has gotten representatives from Guatemala, Columbia, Peru and Botswana.  Students from Jamaica are usually members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).  Upon successful completion of all the two (2) phases of this Course, each participant is awarded the post nominal symbol of "pjsc".

   

CARIBBEAN SECURITY AND STRATEGIC CONFERENCE (CSSC)

The Caribbean Security and Strategic Conference (CSSC) is an annual conference that is hosted by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in conjunction with the United States Naval War College.  It focuses on middle management across the Security Sectors within the region.

This conference is conducted over a one (1) week period and has participants from the JDF, JCF, Customs, Office of Disaster Prepardness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), DCS, Passport Immigration and Customs Authority (PICA), Guyana Defence Force (GDF), District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG), Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Mexico Navy, Maritime Authority and Regional Security System (RSS).  

 

YOUNG OFFICERS’ COURSE (YOC)

The Young Officers’ Course (YOC) is designed to not only introduce Young Officers to the nature of leadership in the JDF, but also to contextualize, formalize and standardize the lessons that each of them were exposed to on their Basic Officer’s training courses at the various Military academies overseas.    Students are exposed to modules such as Leadership, Drill, Training Programme Development, Military Law, Tactics, Event Planning, Critical Thinking, Oral and Written Communication and English Language.  

The YOC runs over a six (6) week period and enables students to take their place in the organization and, as young leaders, successfully continue their military careers.

 

WARRANT OFFICERS’ COURSE (WOC)

The Warrant Officers’ Course prepares middle level leaders for the tasks they are required to do.  As part of the curriculum, the students are introduced to Leadership, Management, Law and other areas of the organisation including the organization of the JDF, the JDF’s Staff System and Operations Room Procedures.

This Course runs over a six (6) week period with participants from the CARICOM Defence Forces as well as the JCF, JFB and DCS.

 

INTERMITTENT COURSES

Caribbean Regional Exclusive Economic Zone Course (CREEZC) and Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) Regional Counter Terrorism Course (CT)

The JDF in collaboration with the Defence Section of the British High Commission host the Caribbean Regional Exclusive Economic Zone Course (CREEZC) and the Regional Counter Terrorism Course.  Both Courses run over a one (1) week period. 

 

Operations Field Commanders’ Course (OFCC)

The Operations Field Commanders’ Course (OFCC) is designed for members of the JCF.  This Course is  hosted by the JDF but is conducted by members of the JCF.
