Marches into Battle!!
The Battle of Britain celebrations continued on Wednesday 15 September 2010 with a Parade at the National Heroes Park and an Annual Reunion Dinner at the Curphey Place. The celebrations marked the event’s 70th anniversary and were in commemoration of those who fought against the German Luftwaffe in the autumn of 1940 over the skies of Britain when Hitler started his campaign to invade the UK and.

The parade included a contingent from the JDF Air Wing, the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) and the Jamaica Legion. Our Commonwealth and United States partners were well represented at the Cenotaph; by the Deputy British High Commissioner Mr Graham Glover; Deputy Canadian High Commissioner Mr Chris Duggan; by United States Charge D’ Affaires, Isiah PARNELL; Her Excellency Sharon SAUNDERS represented Trinidad and Tobago.

The short Parade consisted of the Last Post, a period of silence, the Reveille, a fly past by members of No. 1 Flt followed by the Ode to the Fallen:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor do the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
A Wreath Laying followed immediately afterwards by the various represented groups.
The Annual Reunion Dinner was a black-tie affair with a number of diplomats in attendance to include; Minister of National Security, Senator the Honourable Dwight Nelson, Deputy British High Commissioner Mr Graham Glover, Deputy Canadian High Commissioner Mr Chris Duggan, Captain (Naval) G Reynolds (representing the Chief of Defence Staff), Defence Adviser British High Commission Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Gunning and President of RAFA,
Major General Robert Neish.

The men of RAFA were toasted for their valiant effort in the war, their sterling example of selfless service to Jamaica and their continued efforts of support to those in need when they returned from the War.
