FORCE NETBALL COMPETITION

Excitement filled the air as the teams lined up to participate in the Force Netball Competition. The competition was held at Lathbury Barracks, Up Park Camp on 27 June 2007. The event started with a dress parade which gave the participants a chance to model their immaculate uniforms.

This year each team came all out to win the dress parade. As we all are aware there is only one team that can win. The judges had their work cut out while the participants waited for the announcement of a winner.
The Judges for this year’s competition were Mrs Joan Cargil, the coach of the National Under-Sixteen netball team, Ms Antoinette Irons, Assistant Manager National Housing Trust netball team and Warrant Officer Class Two Garfield Rowe of the Second Battalion The Jamaica Regiment. After much deliberating the judges finally came up with a winner. First place was awarded to the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve).

The day was geared towards everyone having fun and during the lunch time break there was a very exciting ball-shooting competition which was won by Major Judith Johnson of Headquarters Jamaica Defence Force, who scored five out of ten attempts.

The overall netball competition was won by the Support and Services Battalion team while the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) placed second. The games could not have gone well without an award for the Most Valuable Player; after much consideration and observation the organizers awarded Private Julaine Rigg of the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) the Most Valuable Player.
An award was given to the player who had impressed the organizers, and so the award for the Most Improved Player was given to Lance Corporal Trecia Dixon-Blackwood Headquarters Jamaica Defence Force.

The spectators were not left out as on various intervals they were asked trivia questions about previous netball competitions, which gave them on-the-spot prizes.
The day’s events came to a close with the organizers expressing satisfaction with the day’s activities.
