Sixty-nine soldiers of the rank of Private, after six-weeks of intense training, marched smartly off the Parade Square of 1 Engineer Regiment (JDF) before their commanders and instructors ready to take on increase responsibilities in their units. Only one member of the course did not complete the training, which started on 22 April 2005 with 64 men and six women. The students were selected from all the major units in the Jamaica Defence Force.

“It is good to see the fight and the willpower to succeed,” said Major Robinson, in reference to the challenges that the students overcame. “You have achieved one of the requirements of upward mobility.” The next for each student on promotion is Lance Corporal, signalled by the wearing of one stripe on the sleeve of their shirts.
Number One Squad. The Course was divided into six squads. Major Robinson admonished the graduates that they now had the responsibility to go back their units and display the right professionalism and performance so they can catch the attention of their commanders and Sergeant Majors and be promoted. He also advised them to display a difference between themselves and the other private soldiers who have not had the benefit of this development course.
