Q. What are the entry requirements to join the Jamaica Defence Force?
A.
There are two standards of entry for service in the Jamaica Defence Force. You may choose to join either as a Commissioned Officer or as a soldier. In either choice, there are age, qualification, medical and other restrictions.
Q. How to join as a Commissioned Officer?
A.
Nationality : Jamaican citizen
Age : 18 to 23 years
Academics : Two (02) GCE ‘A’ level and five (05) CAPE or GCE ‘O’ level subjects, including Mathematics and English Language
Health : Medically fit by JDF standards
Height : Minimum of 1 m 70 cm (5ft 7ins) tall, for men. However, height restriction is not rigid.
Criminal Record : Spent and unspent convictions may mean that you are ineligible for service.
Q. How to join as a soldier?
A.
Nationality : Jamaican citizen
Age : 18 to 23 years
If you have reached your 17th birth date but still below 18 years, the consent of your parent or guardian is required.
Academics : Grade Nine standard
Health : Medically fit by JDF standards

Q. Are there any other requirements apart from the stated criteria for entry into the Jamaica Defence Force?
