Five
Senior Members of the Unit Received National Awards
For
their invaluable service to the Jamaica Defence Force in general and the
Third Battalion, The Jamaica Regiment (National
Reserve) in particular, the Commanding Officer Lt
Col Linton Gordon heads the list of the five recipients of Medals of Honour
for
Meritorious Service.
These awards were conferred on them by the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir
Howard Cooke, at the 2003 National Honours and Awards Investiture Ceremony
held on the lawns of Kings House on Heroes Day, Monday October 20, 2003.
The other recipients from the Unit were Maj Milverton Munroe – Officer
Commanding D Company, Warrant Officer Class
l
Errol McKenzie – Regimental Sergeant Major –
Permanent Staff Instructor, Warrant Officer Class ll
Patrick M Cabey and
Warrant Officer Class II Samuel Johnson both of
Headquarter Company.
The awards became effective on Independence Day, Wednesday August 06, 2003
when they were gazetted.
Warrant Officer Class II Patrick Cabey has subsequently retired after thirty
five years active service in the JDF.
Also receiving the Order of Distinction for Distinguished Service in the
field of medicine was Captain (ret’d) Charles
Barrington Hastings former Medical Officer for D Company
3JR(NR) who retired his commission and joined the Second Class of the
National
Reserve in 1997.
