Jamaica Combined Cadet Force
(JCCF)
General Overview
The role of JCCF
Benefits to the JDF and community
General Overview
The Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF) is a cadet organisation for boys and girls of
high/secondary school age, based in schools throughout Jamaica. It is administered by a
committee of which the JDF Chief of Staff is chairman, and which is funded by subvention
from the Government.
The JCCF receives assistance in and support for its training
programme from the Jamaica Defence Force, but the main adult support is provided by the
staffs of schools, who are responsible to their principals for the conduct of cadet
activities.
JCCF officers’ uniform is similar to that of the JDF but the
Force is not a part of the JDF and carries no liability for service or compulsory
training.
Members of the JCCF receive basic military training designed to
demonstrate why defence forces are needed, how they function, and to stimulate interest in
joining the JDF.
Role of the JCCF
The role is to help boys and girls develop powers of leadership and discipline through
training, and in turn promote the qualities of responsibility, self-reliance,
resourcefulness, endurance, perseverance and a sense of service to the community. Part of
the syllabus in citizenship training involves activities in support of the local
community.
Benefits
These lie mainly in helping to develop overall good citizenship among the youth of Jamaica
and stimulating an interest in the JDF, its skills and values; it encourages those who
wish to pursue a military career. A number of JDF officers and soldiers are former members
of the Cadet Force.
