Change of Command First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment

There was a Change of Command Parade at Up Park Camp on 02 January 2008.

Lieutenant Colonel G Sean Prendergast took command of the First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment from Lieutenant Colonel Derek Robinson who will assume the position he has relinquished as Staff Officer Intelligence, Operations and Training at the Headquarters Jamaica Defence Force.

Colonel Prendergast has served in various capacities throughout his military career in the Jamaica Defence Force.  He has served as the Training Major of the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) and has acted on many occasions as an Infantry Battalion Commander.

Colonel Prendergast has attended many career development courses; most prestigious are the US Army Command and General Staff Course at Fort Leavenworth and the Regional Defence Counter-Terrorism Fellows Program at the National Defence University at Fort McNair, where he earned the Distinguished Graduate Award.

In recognition of his exemplary service, Colonel Prendergast received the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service to Jamaica Defence Force.

In his farewell speech, Colonel Robinson, his predecessor, said, “serving in the First Battalion had placed him in the company of some of the finest soldiers in the Jamaica Defence Force.” He implored the men on parade to “always remember the Battalion’s ethos of getting the job done.”

Colonel Robinson served as the Commanding Officer of the First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment for five years.
