MOTTO: Serving to Support
JDF W conducts mainly first line repairs on vehicles and equipment. Its main Workshop and a Light Aid Detachment are in Up Park Camp but forward repair teams are established at various military bases around Jamaica. This sub-unit meets the needs for the JDF’s daily functions. It ordnance duties include procuring items from ‘a pin to an anchor’, and storing, issuing and accounting for vehicles, arms, ammunition and equipment. JDF Training Depot (JDF Trg Depot)
This sub-unit is the JDF’s principal institution for recruit training. It is located at Newcastle Hill Station (the camp established in 1841 to give British troops in Jamaica a change of air, so as to combat the high death toll from the dreaded yellow fever disease). Discipline, a core-value of the JDF, is one of the responsibilities of this sub-unit. It handles all Military Police matters including crime prevention and investigation, route clearing, traffic control and camp security. The JDF Transport Unit facilitates road movement throughout the Force. In addition to providing transport, the unit co-ordinates all driver-training and testing, and also supplements other units with drivers and monitors transport when required. |
