115 Hondurans Interdicted for illegal fishing in Jamaican waters


HMJS CORNWALL has made it largest interdiction since its commissioning in October 2005. One hundred and fifteen Hondurans and their Fishing Vessel, Captain Mincho Junior, were intercepted and apprehended on Saturday 03 December 2005 by the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard while fishing illegally in Jamaican waters.

The Honduran Fishing Vessel, was intercepted by the HMJS (Her Majesty’s Jamaican Ship) CORNWALL, the newly built and commissioned Damen Spa 4207 patrol vessel, which was conducting routine patrol on Jamaica’s Pedro Banks.

The 115 Hondurans onboard were fishing spiny lobsters and blue crabs. An undetermined quantity of both lobsters and crabs was found onboard the vessel.

The vessel and crew were detained by the HMJS CORNWALL’s crew, escorted into Kingston Harbour, where they were handed over to Jamaica’s Marine Police.
