New Chairman Heads Web Site Governing Committee
 

Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Oral Khan has succeeded Lt Col Richard Sadler as Chairman of the Jamaica Defence Force Web Site Governing Committee. Lt Col Khan is the third Officer to head this Committee since its inception in January 1998 . He assumed the appointment on August 12, 2003. His predecessor, Lt Col Sadler had been a member of the Web Site Governing Committee since its formation, first as Vice Chairman and then as Chairman from February 2002.

The new Chairman thanked Lt Col Sadler on behalf of the Committee for his contribution to the Web site over the years and assured him that all would be done to keep the mandate of the Web site. In response, Lt Col Sadler thanked everyone for their help while he was the Chairman and wished God’s blessings on the new Chairman. He gave special thanks to the two civilian members on the Committee for their support in ensuring quality input on the Web site.

Lt Col Khan is also the newly appointed Commanding Officer of the Support and Services Battalion. Prior to taking up his new appointments as Commanding Officer and Chairman of the Web Site Governing Committee, Lt Col Khan was on secondment to the Ministry of National Security where he helped to establish a Security Coordinating Unit and subsequently served as the new unit’s first military coordinator. Lt Col Sadler now fills this appointment at the Ministry of National Security.

In a move to make the Web site more dynamic and current, other changes have also been made to the Governing Committee. The Committee has been downsized and unit representatives no longer meet with the Committee, instead materials for the Web site are dealt with at unit command level and so Commanding Officers, while not members of the Committee, have taken on a more participatory role in respect of their Unit’s Web pages.
