Military Boosted By 120 Soldiers

The Jamaica Defence Force was strengthened by an increase of 120 soldiers following a Passing Out Parade held on Saturday September 14 at the Moneague Training Camp, St Ann. The graduation ceremony marked the passing out of the 86th Intake of recruits to be trained by the Jamaica Defence Force. The Intake’s training began on 14 April 2002 with 156 recruits selected from most of the island’s parishes.

The recruits underwent 21weeks of extensive training covering standard military subjects such as drill, weapons training, fieldcraft, service knowledge and physical training. They were also given lectures in specialized areas including human rights, family planning, personal hygiene, sexually transmitted diseases, drug awareness, financial management and personal insurance coverage. The Passing Out Parade was well attended by public dignitaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps and family members of the recruits, and was open to the general public.
