UK’s most Prestigious Military Institution to Visit Jamaica Potential world-shakers from both military and civilian spheres will be gracing Jamaica with their presence and making courtesy calls on the Jamaica Defence Force. The Royal College of Defence Studies, London, United Kingdom, heralded as the most prestigious institution of its kind in the world will be taking its students to Jamaica. Each year the Royal College brings together approximately 80 high-fliers, military and civilian, from all over the world to study international relations and world security. This year, the institution has chosen Jamaica to be among the countries visited as part of the course overseas studies tour. The students will be here from 10-12 October 2001. Jamaica looks forward to the visit of the students from the Royal College as their visit enables these well-placed individuals to gain first hand understanding of the country. The students normally have unique access to policy makers and institutions through the institution’s global network and through privileged diplomatic, commercial and military contacts. The objective of the tour is to increase the students’ effectiveness for future responsibilities by deepening knowledge and stimulating thought about international and regional issues and by increasing their abilities to see their own interests in a wider setting. Jamaica has had a tradition of sending senior officers on the course. The present Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force as well as Jamaica’s Defence Adviser in London are among the Jamaicans who have been privileged to attend the Royal College of Defence Studies. The visit to our region will take the students not only to Jamaica but also to the United States, Canada and Guatemala. The British Ambassador will host the students in each country visited.
