Military Mourns Soldier

 

Members of the Jamaica Defence Force are mourning the loss of one their colleagues, Lance Corporal Kevin O’Sullivan Lawrence, who was fatally shot while on operational duties in the service of his country in Kingston, Jamaica. The late Lance Corporal Lawrence was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital at approximately 9:20 am on 07 July 2001, minutes after gunmen shot him. The Chief of Staff has expressed regrets at his passing and has offered his condolences to the soldier’s family.

His Officer Commanding describes him as "a quiet but efficient worker. "    Lance Corporal Lawrence was a member of Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion the Jamaica Regiment, where he was posted on completion of recruit training in July 1998. He was made an Acting Lance Corporal in November 2000 and was later promoted to the substantive rank of Lance Corporal in February 2001. He then took on the responsibilities of Section Second in Command.

Lance Corporal Lawrence was from the Parish of St Catherine and was 24 years old at the time of his passing.
