Visits
Brigadier General Henri Bentegeat, Commander of the French Armed
Forces in the French West Indies, visited Up Park Camp on 11 August, 1998. On arrival at
Cotton Tree Gate he received a salute from a quarter-guard mounted by soldiers of Support
and Services Battalion, and on arrival at the JDF Headquarters he inspected a guard of
honour mounted by members of the JDF Coast Guard. He was then introduced to the senior
staff officers of the Headquarters after which he called on the Chief of Staff in his
office. He then visited the Second Battalion The Jamaica Regiment where he received a
briefing on the role and capability of the unit, and the JDF Coast Guard where he also
received a briefing on the role and capability of that unit, and had lunch.
Rear Admiral Ian Forbes, Commander of the
United Kingdom Task Group, visited the Jamaica Defence Force on 10 July, 1998; he was
accompanied by the British High Commissioner. He called on the Chief of Staff in his
office after which he visited the Second Battalion The Jamaica Regiment. He then had lunch
hosted by the Second Battalion at the Jamaica Officers’ Club, after which he visited the
First Engineer Regiment (JDF), the JDF Air Wing and the JDF Coast Guard.
On 09 December, 1999, General Maurice Baril, Chief of Defence Staff, Canadian Forces,
visited the Jamaica Defence Force. On arrival at
Cotton Tree Gate he took a salute from a quarter-guard of soldiers of Support and Service
Battalion. He then paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff in his office after which he
attended the graduation ceremony of the students attending the Jamaica Junior Command
Staff Course held at the Staff College at the JDF Training Depot where he delivered the
main address. He then attended a post graduation reception held at the Serek Building
after which he was taken on a tour of Port Royal. General Baril previously visited the JDF
on 10 December, 1998.
