Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Orlando George Levene is the Regimental
Sergeant Major (RSM) for 1 Engineer Regiment (JDF). He was appointed to that
position on 18 March 2002. As the RSM he is the Commanding Officer’s direct
link with the Other Ranks of the Regiment and is responsible for maintaining
discipline in the Unit. His years of experience and knowledge recognizes
him as a Warrant Officer who has a thorough knowledge of drill and Standing
Orders. As the most senior Other Rank, he delegates responsibilities and
details his subordinates for Regiment duties. He also disseminates orders,
instructions and information to the men and women of the Unit.
WO1 Levene enlisted in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in June 1976. Since
joining the military he has completed various military courses both locally
and overseas. Some of these courses are: Infantry Non Commissioned Officer
Skill at Arms Instructors Course at the School of Infantry, England, and
locally, Training Instructors’ Course at the JDF Training Depot in
Newcastle, Supervisory Management Training Techniques at the Administrative
Staff College, Kingston and a Regimental Company Quartermaster Sergeant
Course.
WO1 Levene has served with all the major Units in the JDF except the JDF
Coast Guard. Some of his most notable appointments have been Regimental
Quartermaster Sergeant and Drill Sergeant Major with the 2nd Battalion The
Jamaica Regiment and Permanent Staff Instructor at Echo Company, 3rd
Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve).
During his service he has been awarded the Medal of Honour for General
Service for duties in Grenada under “Operation Urgent Fury”. He is also the
recipient of the Long Service and Good Conduct medal.
He is married and the father of three children. |
