Communication Equipment

Communication is based on high frequency (HF) and very high frequency (VHF) equipment. From time to time various types of equipment have been employed, ranging from the TRA 906 to the PRM 4031. The current batch of mobile radios is the MICOM x R12. At the operational level the PRM 4515 (Cougar) is employed in the mobile, portable and base versions. A limited number of ultra high frequency (UHF) units are available for use at the command level.

The AS/400e Series System
The AS/400e series system is a general-purpose computer that allows the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to deploy advanced organisational applications rapidly.  It is built and designed as a total system and fully integrates all the software and hardware components that any organisation needs.  The JDF Information Systems Centre (ISC) is tasked with maintaining the system.

The system is designed in such a way that it allows the JDF to readily exploit the latest software and hardware technologies without disrupting the existing application software.  The operating system of the AS/400 is designed as a single entity – this means that facilities such as software for databases, comprehensive security, communications, networking and internet capabilities are fully integrated into the operating system.
