“There is no other country that I would rather fly over and no other group of men that I would rather have lead,” said Lt Col Roper. To show the significance of the occasion, the ceremony was attended by Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Antony Anderson, Brigadier Rocky Meade, a number of senior JDF Officers, other ranks and civilian dignitaries, family, friends and well wishers.
As part of his last duties as Commanding Officer, Lt Col Roper presented a number of medals and awards to outstanding members serving in the JDF Air Wing. He went on to charge the men and women of the Unit to grow personally and in their careers, to give of themselves and to guard the things that are important to them.
